A brief introduction to the G.C.E 2024 (2025) Ordinary Level Examination
A total of 474,147 candidates registered for the 2024 GCE Ordinary Level Examination. Of these, 398,182 were school examination candidates. Also, 75,965 were private candidates. This year, the O/L examination was held at 3,663 examination centers across Sri Lanka. All these functions are managed by the Sri Lanka Examinations Department. We are also grateful to them for conducting the examinations in such a quality and well-managed manner.
The 2024 (2025) O/L examination began on Monday, March 17 and ended on Wednesday, March 26. Nearly 35,000 school teachers were directly and indirectly involved in the management of the examination centers. They distributed question papers to the candidates, collected answer sheets and supervised everything. We have also received information that the teachers are currently preparing for paper marking. For this reason, we also expect the exam results to be released before July 15, 2025.

When is the exact date to release the 2024 O/L exam results?
The time and date of release of O/L exam results have changed from time to time. But usually, the results are released every year within 3 to 4 months of the exam. Accordingly, we expect the same to happen this year as well. Accordingly, we expect the date and time of release of the 2024 O/L exam results to be before 12 midnight on July 15, 2025. This is subject to change. But most of the time, the examination department will be able to release the exam results on this date.

- Go to www.doenets.lk (The official website of the examination department of Sri Lanka)
- Click the “School Exam Results” tab.
- Select your exam.
- Select your exam year.
- Find your index number given for the GCE O/L exam 2024 (2025 March).

Is it true, the news circulating on social media about the science question paper of the 2024/2025 GCE Ordinary Level examination?
The Sri Lankan Ministry of Education had issued a press release on this a few days ago. They stated that the news was false. The statement circulated on social media stated that due to the difficulty of the 2024 (2025) O/L Science papers, everyone would be given an additional 10 marks in the science subject, and that any candidate who scores 65 marks would receive an “A” pass. However, the Ministry of Education says that the statement is false. They also stated that no such decision has been taken by the Ministry of Education or the Examinations Department.
